Conversation with Efé McWorter - Icons

Efé McWorter is a force of nature. To see her dance (pictured center), choreograph, teach, act, and advocate is to see her at home in the tumult of creative spaces.

Born to middle-class parents, Efé came of age in Chicago during volatile 1960’s. In the storied Chicago tradition, she built a career as a “work by day – dance by night” performer. Along the way, she came in on the ground floor of The Joseph Holmes Dance Theater.

Sitting at the nexus of Chicago’s arts culture, Efé became one of the most influential arts advocates in the city, ushering in the arts-partners initiative at the Chicago Park District, and in doing so, providing a stable home for many of the city’s itinerant arts organizations.
