Conversation with Gloria Bond Clunie - Icons

When we first set out to create the Icons features, we envisioned spending some quality time with those special artists that made major contributions to changing and expanding the art business. We wanted to start in the Chicago area – not only because that is the physical location of our theater, but also, because Chicago is a hotbed of Black theater – hosting more Black-founded and run companies than anywhere else in the country.

Gloria Bond Clunie was exactly who we had in mind. Join esteemed MPAACT company member Brittany Davis as she sits down with her one-time drama teacher, who also happens to be the founder of Fleetwood-Jourdain Theater. Together they dig into Gloria’s complex history and personal motivations which served as the context for her storied writing career and her groundbreaking theater company.
