Red Summer Songbook Volume 6: Washerwomen

Andrew White crafts ballads that will open your heart and let your emotions spill out – taking hold of a story in surprising and daring ways. In our Red Summer Songbook series we explore the resonant lives of two “Washer Women” who, with seemingly little in common, traverse the harsh landscape of our city and their own harsh existence. Mr. White – teamed with composer Shawn Wallace and actors Shariba Rivers and Ashlea Woodley – wades into the dingy waters of early 20th century “women’s work,” revealing the shared humanity of the matriarchs central to our tale of Chicago’s infamous Red Summer.
