There is nothing as culturally meaningful as ownership of one’s own stories. A gifted communicator, Shirley Carney orates, then takes us inside four stories that were adapted for the MPAACT Mainstage. Drawing us into the muse of her creations, she is joined in conversation by two women who have been with her plays since they first graced the stage, two decades ago. Emmy Award winning artist Carla Stillwell and award-winning Director Kim Crutcher remind us of the treasured works crafted by Ms. Carney, and the importance of a “Mature Black Woman’s Voice” on the American stage.
