Penned by William S. Carroll following the tumult of military service as an Airbourne Ranger, Vital Signs opened in 1994 with the following description…
Vital Signs is a not so gentle reminder that there are those who took up the call for freedom and justice, and as a result are living out their lives in prison. African-American political prisoners who helped change the nation, only to be forgotten, and abandoned by those whom they sought to protect.
Vital Signs is a reflection upon the forgotten “living” such as Assata Shakkur, Geronimo Ji Jaga Pratt, and Dhoruba Bin Wahad – all casualties of an undeclared war on American injustice.
They are also casualties of the short memories and even shorter attention spans that now form our collective consciousness.
